Protecting Individual Rights and Freedoms
Issues
Calaveras County has a long tradition of valuing the individual rights and freedoms of its citizens.
Goal
- Calaveras County residents’ constitutional rights and privileges should be protected and assured.
Actions
The county should:
- Ensure protection of individual rights and freedoms guaranteed by the state and federal constitutions.
- Provide venues for all people from all persuasions to participate in the decision-making process and encourage them to do so. Continue holding town hall meetings in all District 2 communities.
- Ensure that individual personal information is protected from unwarranted release by or to government or business interests.
- Support measures that protect individual rights and resist pressure from state or federal agencies to act in ways that abridge them.
- Make public information more public. The county should continue to post the full board of supervisors’ packets with supporting documents and staff reports on the county website and live up to its obligations under the Public Records Act.
- E-mail board agendas to interested parties.
