Economic Development
- Launched Calaveras Healthy Impact Project (CHIPS) in District 2 for sustainable use of small timber products and reducing fire risk. Obtained five grants to support project and secured 11 scholarships that led to truck-driving jobs for 11 local residents. With CHIPS crew, chipper, and chipping truck, began 100-foot fire-safety clearance program for seniors.
- Brought in $2.6 million in grants and other funds to District 2 for economic development, housing, road improvement, fire safety and job training. Includes $1.2 million grant to improve safety on Mountain Ranch Road.
- Brought the Sierra Century bicycle event to Calaveras County, which added hundreds of thousands of dollars to the local economy.
- Helped keep two major District 2 businesses in the county.
- Helped write and obtain child care grant, Constructing Connections, to develop the planning process to build child care facilities in the county.
- Currently working with the Calaveras Business Council, Chamber of Commerce and other business organizations to sponsor a board study session and establish an economic development summit to be held in 2008.
- Sponsored board of supervisors' study session on the
local economy, which led the board to commit to including an economic
element in the update of the general plan and sponsoring a community
economic summit in 2008.
- Proposed to include an economic element in the county general plan.
- Received the Sierra Business Council’s Vision 2020 award for sustainable economic development efforts.
